Appearance: The plant is divided into a holdfast, stalk and leaf. The stalk is round, smooth and less than 1 cm in diameter. The leaf is whole, about 10-30 cm wide and has ridges and depressions, resembling crocodile skin. Mucus pores on the stalk and leaf give it a slippery feel.
Depth: 0,5-20 m.
Environment: Sugar wrack is found growing on rocks, cliffs and shells. It does not endure wave action as well as oarweed.
Classification: Sugar wrack is a member of the brown algae group.
