The lobster with its claw probably cannot
crush the bone in a human finger, but if it should grip a finger joint
it can exert enough pressure to break the joint. When a lobster uses
its claws, it pulsates between a grip and release action. The common
crab on the other hand takes a grip and holds fast. It is therefore
more unpleasant being pinched by a crab than a lobster.
When a human pinches something between its thumb and finger,
a lot of energi is used. Try yourself and you will notice that your
fingers became tired quickly. A lobster or crab can pinch quite firmly
without using a lot of energy because their muscles are constructed
in another way.
