Smooth and Rayed mussels

Distribution
Distribution in scandinavian waters

Maximum diameter: 5,8 cm.
Appearance: The thick shell has an off-white to yellow-brown colour. The shell has a relatively round circumference, but the circular lines are broken in front of the hinge by an inward bend. In it, the lunula (little moon) that sticks out. Compare it with the Northern lucine mussel.
Depth: 10-50 m.
Environment: Dug down in soft sand bottoms.
Misc: The shells from the Smoothed and Rayed mussels that are often found on Swedish beaches are always old.
Classification: The Smoothed and Rayed mussels are members of the bivalve group under the molluscs.
