More about the Blue mussel
Way of life
The Blue mussel is enclosed in two shells which are opened with the use
of a ligament and closed with the aid of a large adductor muscle. Blue
mussels are found attached with so-called
byssus threads to relatively solid foundations.
The byssus threads are composed of proteins and secreted from special
glands and with the help of its foot the threads are glued to its shell
and to the foundation to which it is attached.
