Boring sponge in
the shell of a Black clam

The sponge has bored holes in the mussel shell. Through these greenish inhalent and exhalent tubes protrude papillae. The greenish colour originates from a symbiotic algae, which the sponge exchanges nutrients with. Boring sponges can even obtain food by filtering very small particles out of the water.
