Distribution
Distribution in scandinavian waters

Maximum length: 0,5-1 m.
Appearance: Has a yellow colour during the spring. Desmarestia aculeata is thorny and looks like defoliated brushwood.
Depth: 10-20 m.
Environment: Generally grows on cliffs, rocks and shells.
Misc: The fine yellow filaments (hairs) fall off during the summer. Desmarestia aculeata is perennial. It becames sexually mature during the summer and autumn.
Classification: Desmarestia aculeata belongs to the brown algae group.
