Mistaken species

In Swedish waters there are 4 different specie of the same family: Pomatoschistus: P. minutus-Sand goby, P. microps-Common goby, P. pictus-Painted goby, P. norvegicus-Goby. All of these species are common in shallow waters except for P. norvegicus.

Sand goby
The sand goby has a dark marking on the 1st dorsal (male) and 12 soft rays on the second dorsal.

Common goby
The common goby has dark marking where the pectoral is attached and 10 soft rays on the 2nd dorsal.Painted goby
The painted goby has a dark area under the lower jaw.
