Baltic isopod

Baltic isopod - Idotea baltica



Scientific names: Idotea originates from the Greek mythological name Eidothea. At least three different figures have this name:

  1. An okeanid - a daughter of the titans Okeanos and Thetys.
  2. The daugter to the Kariens king Evrytos.
  3. The daughter of the sea god Proteus.

Balticus is Latin and means Baltic.

Other scientific names: Idothea balthica or Idothea baltica and Oniscus balthicus.
