Golden carpet-shell



Distribution
Distribution in scandinavian waters

Maximum length: 4,4 cm.
Appearance: The shell has a pale yellow, off-white or brown colour. Occasionally there are violet or red-brown markings. The shell has concentrical growth lines that are parallel with the shell edge that are more pronounced than the radial skulpture that build lines from the top of the shell to the opposite side. Both shells have 3 distinct cardinal teeth. The inside edge of the shell is smooth. Compare with the Pullet carpet-shell.
Depth: 0-20 m.
Environment: Lives dug down in soft bottoms.
Classification: The Golden carpet-shell is a member of the bivalve group under the molluscs.
