Red alga -
Ceramium rubrum

Scientific names: The Greek word keramos means clay (and ceramic pots and dishes). The "i" is euphonic and -um is a neuter ending. This explanation of the word is the most common, but H G Hansson has an alternative explanation that is more in agreement with the algas appearance. A Latinization of the Greek keras, meaning horn and the Greek meion, meaning lesser or smaller. Ruber (maskulinum), rubra (femininum) and rubrum (neutrum) are of Latin origin and mean red.
