Scientific names: The word delesseria originates from the French botanist Jules Paul Benjamin Delessert, 1773-1847, or perhaps from the French geologist and sedimentologist Achilles Ernest Delesse, 1817-81. The Latin sanguis, in its genetive form, sanguinis, means blood.
