Ciona intestinalis

Sea squirt -
Ciona intestinalis

Scientific names: Ciona probably originates from the Greek, Chione, the daughter of Boreas and Orithyia or the bi-name for Daedalions beautiful daughter Philonis. Another possibility is that it is derived from the Greek word kion, meaning pillar. Intestinum is Latin for intestines and entrails, while the Latin -alis means originate.
