Distribution
Distribution in scandinavian waters

Maximum length: Up to 10 cm (on rare occasions up to about 20 cm). In the Baltic they are rarely longer than 3 cm.
Appearance: The shell is blueish-brown-violet in colour.
Depth: 0-10 m.
Environment: Found on rocks and shells on sandy bottoms. Can build large mussel banks. Found even on exposed cliffs, often in large concentrations together with barnacles.
Classification: Blue mussels are members of the bivalve group under the molluscs.
