Baltic isopod - Idotea baltica
Scientific names: Idotea originates from the Greek mythological
name Eidothea. At least three different figures have this name:
- An okeanid - a daughter of the titans Okeanos and Thetys.
- The daugter to the Kariens king Evrytos.
- The daughter of the sea god Proteus.
Balticus is Latin and means Baltic.
Other scientific names: Idothea balthica or Idothea
baltica and Oniscus balthicus.
